X-Press Disaster Recovery

X-Press Disaster Recovery (XDR) is a solution that will provide fully automated recovery of your critical servers, PCs and laptops. An operating system can be restored from Essential's servers to the existing or a replacement server in less than one hour.

XDR performs regular backups to Essential's servers of the Windows folder and registry, and other files required to recover the operating system in the event of its loss or corruption. These backups are stored as a filespace on a TSM node.

It is also necessary to store details of the computers hard disk or RAID system and other configuration information. This information is held either on a floppy disk or on a network share and would only alter if the server hardware were changed.

Automatic disaster recovery

To perform a system recovery, the computer is booted from the XDR CD (which is a boot CD as well as an installation CD) or from floppy disks created by XDR utility. This loads a shell operating system and the drivers necessary to connect to Essential's servers. The hard disks are automatically formatted and partitioned and the Windows files and system are then recovered from the backup held on Essential's servers. When the computer is re-booted, Windows will be restored and TSM can be used to recover the other data.

You can't afford not to have an Essential automatic disaster recovery solution!

Scheduled regular operating system backups ensure that the latest service packs, patches, hardware drivers and DLLs for the operating systems are backed up to Essential's servers and available to recover by XDR. Stores the critical machine specific information of disk partitioning and boot sectors as an .INI file on a floppy disk. In the event of disk or RAID failure, or an irrecoverable corruption of the operating system, the server can be booted from a floppy disk, created by XDR. The machine hard disk or RAID system will be formatted and the operating system will be recovered automatically. The recovery of Windows 2000 operating system can be recovered within minutes depending on the Clients Internet bandwidth. XDR allows a backup created on one system to essential's servers to be recovered to another with the same or different hardware provided that the old operating system recognizes the new systems boot drive. In practice it is possible to recover to most new hardware except where there is a different RAID controller, which is not recognized by the old operating system.
