Remote Backup

Automated Backup

Can your business truly withstand the loss of critical data? What would happen if tomorrow you lost all the data on your servers, laptops and PCs, and you didn't have an updated backup to rely on to get your business back up and running?

Essential's solution protects data from hardware failures, errors, and unforeseen disasters by storing backup and archive copies in secure off-site electronic vaults. We protect thousands of computers running more than a dozen operating systems, ranging from laptops to mainframes, all connected together via the internet. Our solution consists of TSMs centralized web-based management (intelligent data move and store techniques) and comprehensive policy based automation. It works to minimize the administration costs and the impact on computers and networks.

We operate a secure off-site data storage facility. At the facility, an account is maintained for each customer. Each account is protected by a user name and password known only to the customer. All data transferred over the Internet is encrypted; even our Systems Engineers cannot access your data.

You can't afford not to have an Essential backup plan!

After Essential's backup software is installed at the client site, the electronic vault system is configured so that at a scheduled time the clients' file servers or workstations prepare their data for backup. The automated process continues as follows:

  1. The backup is scheduled to regularly execute every night to ensure that the customer data is backed up on a daily basis.
  2. The TSM client software determines which files/folders have been created or modified since the last backup (the initial procedure backs up your hard drive[s] in full).
  3. The TSM client compresses the data to decrease the network/internet traffic between the client and Essential's electronic vaults.
  4. The TSM client authenticates to Essential's electronic vaults. The mechanism for this is a password and user name, which is associated with each client when first installed. The password/authentication exchange guards against impersonation on either side by ensuring both that the client is a legitimate node and that the Essential server is in fact the proper server. For more information about authentication please refer to Password and Encryption.
  5. In order to make the backup transmission more secure, Essential, through TSM client, implements an encryption function, which allows for encrypting data before it is sent to our electronic vaults. This also means that the data stored on Essentials vaults is encrypted and thus is unreadable by Essentials System Engineers.
  6. The TSM client transmits all the encrypted new and changed data and stores it safely on Essential's electronic vaults. These files are available for our clients to restore 24/7.
  7. A daily email is sent to the customer detailing the events that occurred during the last backup.
