The remote backup operation consists of three types of resources: customers computers/servers, data to backup, and rules (customer requirements). Computers/servers contain the data that must be securely backed up; the rules specify how the stored data is to be treated. For example, rules determine how many versions of different data objects should be kept and for how long, and so on.
Depending on the needs of the business, policies can be highly tuned and customized to help keep costs low while still delivering on the stringent requirements of specific service level agreements. Our backup policies can be defined at any level of the hierarchy: single-file, directory, file-system, volume, client computer/server or group of clients. A policy based approach is the key to an effective, secure remote backup solution. After our consultants investigate and identify your business needs, they will implement policy-setting capabilities that exactly match
your requirements. After policies are defined and implemented, the remote backup is managed automatically. If businesses need changes, our engineers simply update the policies, helping
to facilitate a fast change in how the remote backup routines are managed.
File level management capabilities allow Essential to finely tune remote backup needs against business requirements.
Backed up data can be placed on the storage devices that exactly meet
your business needs (critical files and active files can be stored on the on-line disk devices, thereby enabling fast restore. Archived files can be placed on low cost tape media).
Essential's remote backup automation greatly reduces the cost of administration.
We create specific policies according to individual customer requirements,
such as:
- How many versions of the data to keep on the electronic vaults.
- How long to keep deleted files on the electronic vault so the customer will be able to restore files that were deleted mistakenly.
- Data is compressed and encrypted.
- Time of backup.
- How many backups a day. Some customers with critical files require more than one backup a day.
- Archiving weekly, monthly and yearly. Archive can be done to tape CD-RW, DVD-RW or USB hard disk.
